Australia –based Swisse Wellness Pty Ltd. has introduced the first broadly available multivitamin products containing vitamin K2 MK-7, developed in collaboration with K2Vital producer Kappa Bioscience, Oslo Norway. Following a successful pre-launch of the Swisse range, including both Men’s and Women’s Ultivite Multivitamins in Singapore, the number one Australian multivitamin brand will enter select European countries through venture partner PGT Consumer Healthcare.
Swisse Ultivite multivitamins, as well as other Swisse formulations, were launched in the U.K. on Oct. 2015 and will be available in additional European countries in early 2016.
To develop this category Swisse chose to team up with Kappa Bioscience, producers of K2VITAL DELTA, a highly stable and pure vitamin K2 MK-7 delivered in a double-coated and microencapsulated format. K2VITAL DELTA ensures optimum efficacy to support bone and heart health. This development offers a breakthrough in the dietary supplementation market, according to Dr. Mona Møller, because “even a balanced diet does not provide us with enough vitamin K2, and as such it must be supplemented to support optimal health.”
“As one of the most functional and tested multi-vitamin formulations on the market, Swisse is pleased to be the forerunner of vitamin K2 and bring this missing vitamin into multi-vitamin formulations. We do this simply to further improve our functionality and efficacy for our consumers,” said Ulrich Irgens, International Business Director at Swisse.
“Our vision at Kappa is to make vitamin K2 available for everyone. Swisse’s decision to incorporate K2VITAL DELTA into their multivitamins positively boosts the position of vitamin K2 as a an important dietary supplement ingredient,” commented Dr. Egil Greve, CEO of Kappa Bioscience at the agreement signing ceremony at Vitafoods Geneva 2015.
Stability is a common challenge for formulations containing fat-soluble vitamins. Formulations that include minerals, typical of multivitamins, can experience a degrading of the fat-soluble vitamins, including unprotected K2 MK-7. This results in finished products that may not meet label claims. K2VITAL DELTA is the only vitamin K2 MK-7 available on the market in a patent applied, double-coated microencapsulated, highly stable form. K2VITAL DELTA resolves all stability challenges and therefore enables that this essential fat-soluble vitamin can be used widely in the multivitamin category.
Swisse selected K2VITAL DELTA as part of their three year development process where testing demonstrated that K2VITAL DELTA was the only vitamin K2 product to remain stable in formulations containing minerals.
