The Flax Lignan Association recently announced the validation of a standardized method for analyzing the content of secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG), the major lignan found in flaxseed ingredients. The method is HPLC-based and has been validated in multi-lab testing coordinated by Association members. “Until now, companies have used their own in-house methods for measuring the lignan content in their products,” said Flax Lignan Association president Laurent Leduc of Frutarom Inc. “Having a standard method of measurement will ensure the accuracy and safety of products for consumers as more companies enter the flax lignan marketplace.” The Association plans to seek full validation from AOAC International, the scientific association that sets standard methods for analytical results obtained from scientific analysis.
