As a global manufacturer and distributer of bulk oils, spray-dried oil powders, soft gels, extracts and specialty supplements, Connoils, Big Bend, WI, offers high quality products while maintaining a flexible support network for customers.
The company was founded when Cargill Food Ingredients decided to discontinue its nutritional supplements product line. “This was a product line I was directly responsible for,” explained Stacy Peterson, president of Connoils. “At the time of the announcement, Cargill did not have an immediate plan on what to tell their customers about the discontinuation. Since my job was being eliminated I proposed a win/win situation and requested I take over the product line independently. They welcomed the recommendation and said numerous Cargill employees had made similar moves in the past and went on to be very successful.”
Since June 2007 Connoils has supported existing customers while adding new ones, also growing sales and introducing new products. In order to establish its name in the industry, the company recently increased its marketing budget. As a result, Ms. Peterson said, “We have seen lots of new inquiries and have signed on with numerous new customers.”
The company supplies bulk nutritional products, primarily botanicals in the form of bulk oil, spray-dried oil powders and soft gels. Fluid bulk oils are derived from flowers, herbs and fruits that have been used to promote wellness for thousands of years, according to the company.
“Our spray-dried powders carry a 60% oil load, which is higher than any others we’ve seen in the marketplace,” Ms. Peterson noted. “Customers seem to like the products a lot and this particular product form has grown very successfully. Although our product line is rather small, we add product offerings that complement the other products in our list. We do not try to be all things to all customers, but rather provide a high quality product with superior customer service.”
The company’s commitment to offering quality nutritional powders allows wholesalers and private label retailers to sell high oil content nutritional supplements in tablet or capsule form. Products are manufactured in a GMP-certified facility, and Connoils’ suppliers must meet or exceed strict standards for quality in order to provide safe products that satisfy all regulatory requirements.
“Everyone is looking for new product offerings and magical solutions to introduce into their diet for a healthier lifestyle,” said Ms. Peterson. “While everyone in the industry is constantly seeking new research data to introduce new items, we take a very cautious approach and only consider reputable product offerings. We take pride in our quality and will only introduce new product offerings if they make sense to our business and the nutritional industry as a whole.”
According to Ms. Peterson, the company distinguishes itself through superior customer service, understanding that customers, buyers of nutritional supplements, need flexibility to order small to large quantities, as well as on-time delivery and competitive prices. In addition to these essential services, Connoils offers custom formulations, helping customers develop their own private label lines.
Ms. Peterson said the company has weathered the economic storm of recent years. In fact, a poor financial climate has probably enhanced the company’s business, she added. “Consumers are showing more interest in being proactive in their health and are experimenting with more over-the-counter nutritional support to try and stay healthy and avoid expensive visits to the doctor. The nutritional supplement industry as a whole seems to be benefiting from the economic events. We certainly look forward to improvements in the economy and maintaining a healthier lifestyle through our product offerings.”—S.M.
