Recent studies have demonstrated excellent performance of rice bran wax compared to the gold standard of traditional lubricants such as magnesium stearate.

As a clean label lubricant for tablets and capsules, rice bran wax—the lipid material or wax that is secreted on the surface of the rice hull or bran—can offer greater customer acceptance compared to stearates, which are under scrutiny due to hypersensitivities and other health risks.

Rice bran wax has also demonstrated equivalent if not superior lubrication functionality when compared to magnesium stearate, according to Carpanzano; and unlike magnesium stearate, rice bran wax can actually have a positive impact on tablet hardness.
