Bioiberica, ByHealth Partner to Bring Native Type II Collagen to China

Under the brand Highflex, the collaboration will aim to set a platform on joint health benefits among Chinese consumers.

Nutraceutical and pharmaceutical ingredient supplier Bioiberica has partnered with ByHealth, a Chinese vitamin and dietary supplements supplier, to develop a native type II collagen product under the brand Highflex.

The companies report an increase in physically-active consumers seeking products to support their joint health in China, and so the partnership seeks to establish a platform for the companies in this burgeoning health demand as collagen is predominantly associated with skin health across Asia. The collaboration aims to educate Chinese consumers about the benefits of collagen supplementation on joint health.

ByHealth’s Highflex type II collagen tablets will contain Bioiberica’s native (undenatured) type II collagen ingredient, Collavant n2, which has been evidenced in a human clinical study to improve knee discomfort and function. The tablets are the first product to result from the companies’ partnership and will boost Highflex’s market share.

According to the companies, Highflex experienced a 29.25% revenue increase in the first half of 2021. ByHealth aims to capitalize on the potential of new product development with Bioiberica through the use of its native type II collagen, and respond to a growing number of consumers seeking out a collagen product to support their mobility.

“China is a particularly interesting and dynamic territory in the global mobility market. It has a large aging population and an emerging health-conscious younger generation, but collagen for joint health and mobility is a relatively new concept. There is therefore significant opportunity for brands looking to target Chinese consumers, especially if they educate them about the benefits of collagen beyond skin and beauty,” Jaume Reguant, healthcare director at Bioiberica, said.

“We’re always seeking new collaborative partnerships with forward-thinking manufacturers that want to respond to emerging trends with the latest science and ingredient innovations,” he continued. “Bringing together ByHeatlh’s well-respected brand with our technical understanding has allowed both companies to reinforce their place in the fast-growing mobility market.”

Reguant said that Bioiberica and ByHealth are in discussions about furthering their collaborations with more potential new product development.
