Roquette, an ingredient supplier and provider of pharmaceutical and nutraceutical excipients, has launched a refreshed platform for its coatings.

SCROLL TO CONTINUE

The new platform brings together the Tabshield range of ready-to-use film coating systems and Readilycoat plant-based ready-to-use coating systems. Each platform is suitable to address emerging needs in the pharmaceutical prescription, nutraceutical, and over-the-counter markets. The new launch complements the company’s existing portfolio of excipients.

Roquette joined Kofitech, a specialist in film coating materials and owner of the Tabshield brand, to create the new coatings platform, with sustainability, speed, and performance concerns in mind. Tabshield uses standard base polymers and titanium dioxide-free formulations for both immediate and enteric release.

The Readilycoat plant-based premix coating solutions utilize eco-friendly plant-based polymers. Relative to traditional coating methods, Readilycoat solutions are fast, simple, and streamlined, reducing processing times, Roquette reported. The sugar-free variations also align with present consumer preferences.

“The global market for pharmaceutical and nutraceutical coatings is projected to reach 2.7 billion euros by 2027, driven by increasing demand for innovative patient-friendly dosage forms,” comments Paul Smaltz, head of the pharmaceutical solutions business unit at Roquette. “Our new coatings platform is designed to help drug and supplement producers seize these opportunities with effective and eco-conscious solutions that enhance user experience, whether that’s by masking bitter-tasting active ingredients, smoothing tablet surfaces for ease of swallowing, or providing surface color to help patients differentiate their medications.”
