Aker BioMarine Introduces Halal-Certified Krill Oil

Superba SC40 will make the company’s krill oil portfolio available to a widened demographic of consumers.

Aker BioMarine, a biotech company specializing in Antarctic krill-based supplements, recently introduced Superba SC40, the company’s first Halal-certified krill oil, which will give the company’s ingredient customers across the world the possibility to add new target groups to their products, by matching this consumer need.

Superba SC40 is produced in a Halal-certified facility under strict biosecurity and safety standards, Aker BioMarine said adding that the technology the company uses can maintain the biological activity in krill oil with high levels of phospholipids intact. Like the company’s other Superba ingredients, Superba SC40 contains phospholipids with omega-3s and choline.

“As Aker BioMarine continues to grow globally, we are seeing an increasing demand for a Halal-certified product and we believe Superba SC40 is an ideal solution to meet this demand,” Tim de Haas, EVP of Human Health and Nutrition for Aker BioMarine, said. “We are passionate about producing the best krill oil in the world and with this new spec we can appeal to a wider demographic of customers and consumers globally both in new and existing geographies.”
