Alkemist Labs has added purity testing to its suite of services, alongside tests for identity, potency, and hemp-specific panels. The company now has the instruments and expertise to screen for heavy metals and pesticides with a renewed accreditation to ISO 17025:2017, along with the most sensitive equipment and test methods, according to the company.
 
Growing plants can pick up heavy metal contamination in both the soil and environment, and Alkemist Labs can enable products to satisfy both USP and Prop 65 limits. Although pesticides are considered a single category, it takes four separate analytical instrumental analyses to test for all substances listed in the USP standard, which sets criteria for sampling.
 
New services are also going to be available through Alkemist in April, including tests for residual solvents according to USP method , through an instrument known as Headspace GC/MS, which can detect extremely low levels of solvent contaminants.
 
Alkemist received ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation from the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation, this time adding accreditation for pesticides and heavy metals.
 
“Alongside identity and potency testing, purity testing is an essential component of meeting GMP requirements, and verifying a clean product, so we’re glad to offer this to our clients,” Elan Sudberg, CEO of Alkemist Labs, said. “We’re working on adding additional ISO accreditations for other services we offer, which we expect to achieve in the near future.”
 
The Alkemist Labs accreditation has been renewed until February 28, 2024. The accreditation process involved an assessment and review of the lab’s quality management system and competence.
