Cactus Botanics Expands Botanical Extracts Targeting Cholesterol & Weight Management

Newly added ingredients target cholesterol levels, weight, and cardiovascular health.

Ingredient supplier Cactus Botanics has launched three new botanical extracts that are researched to have positive influence on cholesterol management and weight.

For healthy cholesterol profile management, Cactus Botanics is now offering Red Yeast Rice Powder and Policosanol. “The CDC has noted that currently approximately one in every three American adults has high levels of low-density lipoproteins and that one in every three with high LDL does not have it under control,” explained Carol Cheow, CEO of Cactus Botanics. “A lot of this has to do with the fact that statin drugs can cause discomfiting side effects. We performed extensive research and decided that this is an area where we wanted to emphasize, as we believe that supporting healthy cholesterol levels via supplementation is a strong approach to overall cardiovascular health.”

Specifically, Ms. Cheow noted, red yeast rice contains unsaturated fatty acids that may help reduce serum lipids, and helps to support optimal ratio of total cholesterol, LDL and HDL, as well as triglycerides. Policosanol helps to support healthy LDL and total cholesterol levels, inhibits lipid peroxidation and supports vascular flexibility.

For formulas targeting men and women who want to lose about 10 to 20 pounds, Cactus Botanics offers Cinnamon Powder Extract, which also supports healthy blood sugar.

According to Ms. Cheow, research shows that cinnamon extract mimics insulin, which helps regulate normal blood sugar while also stimulating thermogenesis (fat burning), especially in the abdomen. “Cinnamon is trending in consumer health media and many consumers are interested in using it to help get into shape and keep their blood sugar levels healthy,” she said.

Cactus Botanics now has the following available: Red Yeast Rice Powder (Monascus purpureus)—Monacolins 0.4%-4.0%; Policosanol (Sugar cane wax/Saccharum officinalis)—Octacosanol 60%; and Cinnamon Powder Extract (Cinnammum cassia Presl.— Polyphenols 5% UV; 10:1, water extraction.
