Gattefossé, a French manufacturer of pharmaceutical excipients and natural cosmetic ingredients, has opened a new office and technical center in Mumbai, India. The location was a strategic choice based on the country’s fast-growing pharmaceutical sector thanks to its scientific base, and government support, with the beauty and personal care market also rapidly expanding.

“We recognize that India dominates the global market for generic and super generic drugs, and serves as a major export hub for markets worldwide, including the U.S. and Europe. With its strong scientific and technological foundation, and vast talent pool, India is perfectly positioned to partner with global companies,” said Eduardo De Purgly, Gattefossé Group CEO. “It is also establishing itself as a key player in manufacturing, R&D, and clinical trials. In the thriving cosmetics market, where demand for multi-functional and biodegradable products continues to rise, Gattefossé responds with innovative ingredients and lipid-based solutions that deliver proven benefits. We are committed to empowering brands to meet the evolving needs of consumers, particularly across the thriving Asia-Pacific region.”

The new technical center will feature pharmaceutical and personal care application laboratories, to support local customers and generate applications based on local, regional, and global needs.

The laboratory projects can help troubleshoot and provide guidelines for using Gattefossé excipients, including sustained-release formulations, bioavailability enhancement, and topical applications. For personal care, the laboratory develops cosmetic products and formulas for skincare, haircare, suncare, and color cosmetics to meet local needs and trends.

“Our technical center of excellence embodies our commitment to innovation and our dedication to addressing the challenging demands of the pharmaceutical and personal care sectors. We work closely with our customers, from developing prototypes for generic and super generic formulations to advancing cosmeceutical products,” said Sunil Bamarkar, managing director of Gattefossé India. “We are confident that Gattefossé India, with its sustained growth and highly skilled team of professionals, will continue to expand its reach and provide valuable support not just to the dynamic Indian market, but also to other affiliates across the globe.”

The new premises are constructed with sustainability in mind, achieving IGBC (Indian Green Building Council) Platinum Certification for energy efficiency, resource conservation, and waste management. The premises have earned WELL certification for their focus on enhancing the health and well-being of occupants, with features that enhance the air quality, lighting, and overall indoor environmental quality.
