The American Herbal Pharmacopoeia (AHP), a California-based non-profit research organization will formally collaborate with the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine & Health Sciences’ (SCNM) Ric Scalzo Institute for Botanical Research, a leader in education of naturopathic medicine and natural products research.

AHP and SCNM share a common desire to foster a high level of integrity and quality in all aspects of botanical healthcare. Establishing collaborations that integrate herbal medicine research with the experience of the naturopathic medical community is an important step in unifying the larger herbal medicine community and reflects a spirit of mutual support in the larger goals and missions of AHP and SCNM, the groups said.

According to Roy Upton, AHP president, “With the recent endowment of the Ric Scalzo Institute for Botanical Research and the integration of naturopathic medical practitioners with academic botanical medicine researchers, SCNM is poised to be a leader in the field of integrative and evidence-based botanical medicine. Working together to develop an AHP Monograph and Therapeutic Compendium is a perfect way to begin this collaboration given the immense interest there is in all things hemp and CBD.”

According to Paul Mittman, ND, EdD, president of SCNM, “The Ric Scalzo Institute for Botanical Research is honored to be the lead sponsor for the AHP Hemp Monograph and Therapeutic Compendium. The Institute looks forward to our AHP collaboration as a means to advance the medicinal uses of Cannabis sativa and many other promising botanicals.”
