Kyowa Hakko announced that its Setria glutathione ingredient has received approval from ANVISA, Brazil’s health authority, for use as a health ingredient in functional foods and dietary supplements.

Glutathione is an antioxidant which reduces damage to cells caused by free radicals and other toxins, and is suitable for immune support and overall health and wellness applications, according to Kyowa Hakko. It is commonly used in tablets, capsules, and powders as dietary supplements. Setria glutathione is produced using a fermentation process which improves purity and bioavailability, and is both backed by clinical research and is certified by third-party organizations for quality and safety, the company reports.
 
ANVISA oversees production, marketing, and use of products and services subject to health regulation, including environments, processes, ingredients, and technologies, as well as control in ports, airports, and borders.
