Lallemand Health Solutions and FrieslandCampina Ingredients have advanced their partnership on the synbiotic Natural PRO-Digest, which combines FrieslandCampina’s prebiotic Biotis GOS-OP High Purity and Lallemand Health Solutions’ probiotic B. lactis Lafti B94 to create synergistic benefits that supports gut comfort.

Simulation of the colon using SIFR technology assessed the impact of Biotis GOS High Purity and Lafti B94, individually and as a synbiotic, on gut microbiota composition and activity. The synbiotic was shown to work synergistically to boost gut microbiota and promote short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production.

A new consumer study tested the synbiotic Natural Pro-Digest for gut comfort support with 107 participants aged 18 to 65 years old. Participants dissolved one sachet containing 1.3 g High-Purity Biotis GOS and 5B Lafti B94, per day for 28 days. They filled in self-affirmed questionnaires about their experience and gut comfort.

The study shows that on average, 85% of consumers recognized this product as easy to use and easy to integrate into their daily routine and 97% of consumers appreciated the product’s taste from the first date and it continued throughout the study.

The study also showed significant improvement in self-reported gut comfort after 1 week, with continued improvement throughout the study. More than half of the consumers experienced a positive effect on gastrointestinal health after just 1 week.

In addition, significant improvement in gastrointestinal health-related quality of life were observed specifically on improvement of daily activities and enhancement of peacefulness as people were overall less worried because of their gastrointestinal symptoms.
