Supplement company New Chapter has announced that it will launch its first Upcycled Certified products, which will include its entire Wholemega Wild Alaskan Salmon Fish Oil line.

The Upcycled Certified mark identifies products that were created from materials that otherwise would have gone to waste. Using these surplus foods to create new high-quality items helps to reduce food waste and promote sustainable practices.

Previously, New Chapter obtained organic certifications for its vitamins in 2005, and enrolled products in Non-GMO Project Verification in 2010.

“We are incredibly proud to be among the first vitamin brands to achieve Upcycled Certification,” said Blaine Streisand, CEO of New Chapter. “Our commitment to sustainably harvested salmon has been a guiding principle since we began selling our Wholemega line in 2009, ensuring that not a single extra fish is caught in the process. The Upcycled Certification reaffirms our mission to harness the earth’s finest ingredients and lead the way in creating a healthier, more sustainable world.”

All New Chapter Alaskan salmon oils are sourced from Certified Responsible Alaskan Fisheries, and are fresh-pressed from salmon trim that had already been caught and filleted for restaurants and grocers, but would have gone unused despite its nutritional value. Fish oil is evidenced to support heart, joint, brain, eye, and skin health, and improves Omega-3 Index, triglyceride levels, and other heart health markers.

Beginning in December, New Chapter’s entire Wholemega line, including Wholemega Fish Oil, Wholemega Fish Oil for Moms, and Wholemega Fish Oil Tiny Caps, and its Omega-3 Complex product, will begin bearing the Upcycled Certified seal.
