Ingredient supplier Nexira has introduced a portfolio of ingredients dubbed the GLP-1 collection. The range of botanicals is being marketed as a natural alternative to conventional weight management solutions.

Carolean, the leading ingredient, is evidenced to potentially promote GLP-1 secretion and support appetite control. Other premium ingredients may also play a supportive role for consumers currently undergoing GLP-1 therapies or may serve as support ingredients for maintaining a healthy weight, according to Nexira.

Carolean is derived from cactus and carob, and is evidenced to support natural secretion of GLP-1, a hormone which regulates appetite and satiety. The ingredient is highly viscous, which triggers satiety quickly, and continues to support digestion for 80 minutes, according to the company.

The company reported that an in vivo study in 2024 provided evidence that carolean may reduce food intake and slow gastric emptying, both acutely and chronically. In the study, the ingredient promoted a two-fold increase in GLP-1 secretion in animals, while reducing ghrelin by 67% on average. “These changes impact the neuronal pathways responsible for hunger and satiety, offering a natural means to help manage appetite and support weight loss,” the company reported.

Nexira also provides natural ingredients that may help to alleviate digestive discomfort, low energy levels, or the loss of lean muscle mass. These include acacia fiber for gut health, rice and carob proteins for muscle support, or ginseng and guarana for energy and focus.

These natural ingredients, combined with diet and exercise, support a holistic approach to prevent weight gain following GLP-1 treatment discontinuation, Nexira reported.
