Nutrafol Supplement Improves Men’s Hair Growth: Clinical Study

The formula of vitamins, minerals, botanical extracts, and more improved measures of hair growth and quality over placebo, in a six-month treatment period.

Nutrafol, a dietary supplement featuring vitamins, minerals, and patented blends of specialty ingredients, was evidenced to improve certain measure of hair thinning in men, according to a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology.

Nutrafol Men is designed to address the root causes of male hair shedding and thinning, which affects two thirds of men by the age of 35, according to the company. The formula is designed to improve hair thickness, growth, and scalp coverage with none of the side effects associated with other hair loss solutions, the company reports.

“Men are often taught hair thinning and shedding is largely hereditary,” said Dr. Neal Bhatia, a primary investigator of the study. “With few options on the market that do not contain unwanted side effects, Nutrafol has pioneered a new way of approaching and explaining the science of hair wellness, ensuring that their customers are receiving safe, effective products that meet their hair wellness goals without compromising their quality of life.”

The six-month study was completed by 85 participants (52 in the Nutrafol group and 33 in the placebo group), who were administered four capsules of Nutrafol or a matching placebo daily. The study endpoints included Global Investigator Ratings for hair growth and quality, the Men’s Hair Growth Questionnaire, and changes in the Arizona Sexual Experience Scale.

Compared to placebo, there was a significantly greater number of participants who took Nutrafol that were rated as improved for hair growth and quality in the investigator global assessments. Specifically, 79% of Nutrafol recipients were rated as improved by blinded investigators by the end of the study, while 51% of subjects who took a placebo were rated as improved by blinded investigators.

Additionally, the treatment group had greater improvements in self-reported hair growth and quality. Specifically, 85% of participants in the Nutrafol group reported a positive response regarding changes in hair thinning, compared to 55% of the control group. There were also no trends in either treatment group for self-reported changes in sexual function, suggesting that the supplement was well-tolerated.

“At Nutrafol, our customers are at the core of everything we do, and a key part of that commitment is rigorous clinical testing,” said Cindy Gustafson, CEO of Nutrafol. “We strive to deliver best-in-class products with proven results, and this study is a testament to the extensive research and development behind every Nutrafol formula. By prioritizing bio-specific formulations tailored to address hair thinning and testing them within their intended populations, we ensure efficacy and relevance. Our dedication to conducting randomized controlled trials and comprehensive safety assessments means our customers can trust Nutrafol to be both effective and safe.”
