NutraShure, an ingredient supplier in the supplement, functional food, and functional beverage spaces, received a patent publication for Biomend, a butyrate ingredient formulated for gut health. The patent came ten months after filing.

In a partnership with INFUSD Nutrition, the company also now offers a heat-stable, beverage-grade version of the ingredient, expanding its application capabilities to ready-to-drink formulations and other functional nutrition products, with no compromise on stability or efficacy.

Traditional butyrate ingredients aren’t heat-stable, limiting their use in beverage formats. With stability assured at high temperatures, Biomend can now be incorporated into a variety of applications, allowing manufacturers to formulate gut health and metabolic support beverages, and expand consumer access to butyrate in on-the-go formats.

“We are almost at the one-year mark with BIOMEnd, and we continue to have so much success with the ingredient. Receiving our patent publication on BIOMEnd is another major step forward for us,” said Brandon Sojka, CEO at NutraShure. “In addition, our partnership with INFUSD Nutrition allows manufacturers to incorporate the powerful benefits of BIOMEnd into functional beverages without stability challenges, something we have not seen in the market with other butyrate ingredients.”

Biomend launched last year, as a butyrate formulated for enhanced palatability and solubility. Earlier this year, a pharmacokinetic study found that the ingredient offered greater bioavailability compared to two other forms of butyrate, tributyrin and sodium butyrate.
