Two new studies supporting respective claims about skin health benefits and bioavailability of Rousselot’s Peptan collagen peptides claims have been published. The two studies, one clinical trial on skin beauty markers and a bioavailability study showcasing its absorption profile, provide insights for the nutraceutical and functional food industries, the company reported.
 
The findings will be showcased at Vitafoods Asia in Bangkok, Sept. 18-20.
 
The clinical study evaluating Peptan’s potential role in visible signs of skin health was published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology. In the trial on 85 east Asian women between the ages of 40 and 65, those who took five grams of Peptan daily for 12 weeks showed significant improvements over the placebo group in measures of skin density, elasticity, hydration, and wrinkle depth.
 
“This study solidifies Peptan’s robust scientific foundation as a powerful in gradient for delivering evidence-based beauty solutions globally, including in Asia,” said Gaëtan Noiret, global director of health and nutrition at Rousselot.
 
The second study, published in Frontiers in Nutrition, was conducted by researchers at Rousselot, BioTeSys, and Triskelion. The randomized, double-blind, crossover trial was designed to explore Peptan’s absorption profile. The study evaluated the absorption of bioactive di- and tripeptides and free amino acids, key markers of collagen intake, from bovine, porcine, and fish sources, each of which have varying molecular weights. Measuring plasma concentrations of free and peptide-bound hydroxyproline after consumption showed that there were significant levels of these metabolites present with consistent bioavailability across the different raw material sources and molecular weights.
 
“These findings further affirm Peptan’s value as an effective and bioavailable ingredient, regardless of its origin or molecular weight, underscoring its versatility for use in a wide range of product applications,” said Noiret.
