Study Links Ashwagandha to Improved Muscle Growth & Recovery

A clinical trial report, published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, examined the effect of supplementation by KSM-66 Ashwagandha in adult males engaged in resistance training. Compared to the placebo subjects, the group consuming KSM-66 had significantly greater increases in muscle strength on the bench-press exercise and the leg-extension exercise, and significantly greater muscle size increase at the arms and chest. In addition, those receiving ashwagandha also had significantly greater reduction of exercise-induced muscle damage as indicated by the stabilization of serum creatine kinase, significantly greater increase in testosterone level and a significantly greater decrease in body fat percentage. These findings are noteworthy because they indicate that KSM-66 Ashwagandha can help increase the body’s adaptation in response to strength training and serve as a useful adjuvant. The double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial had a sample size of 57 males of age between 18 and 50 years.

These effects are perhaps responsible for the strong results we see in this study.”
