TSI Group, the suppliers of an HMB ingredient called myHMB, have introduced a new “myHMB + Vitamin D” logo, to highlight the synergistic relationship between the two ingredients discovered in recent clinical research. The new logo is also intended to help consumers more easily identify products made with the proper form, formulation, and dosing.

“Our patented combination of myHMB + Vitamin D is not just another supplement; it’s a groundbreaking solution that addresses critical needs in muscle and bone health,” said Larry Kolb, president of innovative ingredients product line at TSI Group. “We are committed to leading this category by providing a scientifically validated, IP-protected option that sets the standard for quality and efficacy. This is more than just a new logo. It’s a commitment to quality, efficacy, and innovation in the supplement industry. We’re setting a new standard for muscle health products, one that’s rooted in rigorous scientific research and protected by strong intellectual property.”

HMB’s safety and efficacy is backed by more than 150 human clinical studies, over 100 review articles, and 14 meta-analyses, and much of the research was supported by TSI Group using myHMB. Vitamin D is also evidenced to play a role in bone and skeletal health as well as muscle recovery. Vitamin D deficiency is also associated with a loss of muscle strength.

Emerging Evidence

In 2019, results of a year-long placebo-controlled study found that HMB increased lean body mass in adults over the age of 65, but didn’t appear to proportionately improve strength and function. Because 70% of the study participants had insufficient vitamin D levels, researchers performed a retrospective analysis. They found that only those who had sufficient vitamin D levels saw an increase in strength and function with HMB.

A 2020 follow-up study funded by the National Institutes of Health found that sufficient doses of HMB and vitamin D, when added to a daily protein shake, improved muscle health in older adults. Higher vitamin D levels were associated with greater strength and superior muscle function, and these synergistic benefits were observed even in the absence of exercise.

Collectively, the data indicate that when sufficiently dosed, the combination of HMB and Vitamin D may improve muscle mass, strength, and function, increase muscle protein synthesis, decrease muscle protein breakdown, and strengthen bones to withstand activity, exercise, or strength training.

TSI Group patented the recommended dosage based on this primary research, which is 1500 mg of myHMB and 500 IU vitamin D, taken once or twice daily.

According to TSI Group, ingredients that are IP-protected give formulators competitive advantages, such as scientific validation of efficacy and safety; quality and regulatory advantages such as certifications ranging from GRAS and non-GMO to USP; and brand identity, which can help maintain reputation of finished products.

“Consumers deserve products that are effective, safe, and scientifically validated,” said Kolb. Our IP-protected formulations provide peace of mind, knowing that they are backed by rigorous research and regulatory compliance. We’re urging all our customers and future partners to embrace our patented combination. By using myHMB + Vitamin D, they’re ensuring product efficacy and aligning themselves with cutting-edge nutritional science.”
