Virun Launches Line of Shelf-Stable Probiotic Powders and Emulsions

Non-refrigerated probiotic single-serving powders and emulsions now available to manufacturers.

Virun Nutra-Biosciences released a series of shelf-stable multi-serving powders and emulsions.

“Simply put, Virun’s technology binds proteins to probiotics which helps stabilize and increase the survivability of traditional strains such as Bifidobacterium lactis and infantis and Lactobacillus acidophulus,” explained Philip Bromley, CEO and co-founder of Virun. “We have several patents and patents pending utilizing our probiotic technology. Plus, Virun has used third party stability testing to verify our process increased the survival rate of the good bacteria in the gut and in application.”

The company said that until now, it has been difficult to create shelf-stable multi-serving powder and emulsion concentrates because many probiotic strains require refrigeration once in liquid form. That is the primary reason probiotics are generally found in the supplement section as a type of pill or in the yogurt aisle of grocery stores and retail supplement outlets. Now, retailers will be able to place a probiotic powder or emulsion in the supplement space next to other probiotic brands. Inevitably, this allows new and exciting ways to market and brand probiotics in never-before-seen delivery type applications.

The probiotic powders and emulsions will be branded as Probiferrin and comes in flavors such as Cherry and Grape. The packaging for Probiferrin will be an easy to squeeze, multi-serving 8 or 16 ounce bottle or multi-dose oral syringes. Servings and probiotic strength will be between 1 and 50B CFU per gram of 5 mls depending on the strain and customer specification.
