DDW Acquires Danisco’s Food Coloring Line

The transaction positions DDW as the largest manufacturer of annatto-based food colorings in North America.

D.D. Williamson (DDW), Louisville, KY, has acquired a food coloring product line and related processing equipment from Elmsford, NY-based Danisco USA Inc. Danisco has been a part of DuPont Nutrition & Health since 2011.

The transaction broadens DDW’s portfolio of natural color solutions for customers, and positions DDW as the largest manufacturer of annatto-based food colorings in North America. The financial terms of this transaction were not disclosed.

“This acquisition allows DDW to strengthen its existing offerings for customers around the world,” said Ted Nixon, chairman and CEO.  “The larger toolkit will improve DDW’s ability to develop unique color solutions for applications, one customer at-a-time, and will extend our manufacturing expertise in Wisconsin.”

After an interim period of equipment and inventory transfer from the DuPont plant in Madison, WI, manufacturing will consolidate at DDW’s GFSI-certified operation in Port Washington, WI, to supply both domestic and export customers.

Designed to support food processors through formulation and blending performance, the Danisco colors product line consists primarily of various carotenoid colorings and blends offered as food industry solutions in the yellow to orange spectrum. The colorants can be applied to dairy, dessert, bakery/snack, culinary, flavor, beverage and other industry sectors.
