GOED, the Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s, and Sociedad Nacional de Pesquería (SNP) announced that they have signed a joint partnership agreement, bringing together these two groups with an interest in marine-based businesses. The partnership acknowledges the key role that the Peruvian anchovy fishery plays in the omega-3 industry, which is the core of GOED’s business activities.
Under the terms of the agreement, 11 key SNP member Peruvian fishing companies will become members of GOED, which has a major interest in the Peruvian anchovy fishery as it holds major importance to the omega-3s market. Peru is the world’s largest producer of fish oil for the $44.2 billion global market of consumer EPA and DHA products, and SNP is responsible for leading the development and regulation of the fishing and aquaculture industries.
“Having the backing of Peruvian fishing companies is very important to GOED,” Ellen Schutt, executive director of GOED, said. “Both GOED and SNP are focused on supporting the Peruvian anchovy business and we believe our common commitment, which brought this partnership to life, will help the category overall.”
“Peru is poised to become a leader in the production of omega-3 in the world, thanks to the diversity of hydrobiological products offered by its sea,” Cayetana Aljovin, SNP president, said. “The alliance with GOED will allow us to achieve that goal. We are committed to the wellbeing of Peru and the world.”
