Ashwagandha Ingredient Shown to Improve Sleep and Quality of Life

Ashwadaat, an Ashwagandha-based botanical ingredient, reduced cortisol levels to normal range within 30 days.

A new water-dispersible Ashwagandha extract, Ashwadaat, manufactured by Lodaat Pharma, was evidenced in a recently-published clinical trial to improve sleep and reduce stress within 30 days of daily supplementation.

The study, which appeared in the International Journal for Research in Applied and Natural Science, found that subjects with mild to moderate stress saw significant improvements when taking 500 mg of the ingredient twice daily.

“Common somatic symptoms often reported by those experiencing excess stress include sleep disturbances or changes in sleeping habits (insomnia, excess sleeping), muscle tension, muscle aches, headache, gastrointestinal problems, and fatigue,” the authors of the study said.

Stress scores were reduced by 10 points on the Perceived Stress Scale assessment, and the sleep disturbances associated with insomnia were reduced by over 55% in the experimental group, according to self-reported data measured by the Insomnia Severity Index. Other key measurements the group saw significant improvements in were serum blood cortisol measurements (which were reduced by almost 10%), as well as the Quality of Life General Health Questionnaire. In total, researchers recruited 30 participants for the study with an average age of 41 years, all of whom had complaints of mild sleep disturbances.

“A significant improvement in sleep quality along with improvement of quality of life (QOL) was seen at day 15 and day 30 as compared to baseline scores,” the authors of the study said. “There was a reduction in morning serum cortisol levels (within normal range) from baseline to 30 days.”

Ashwadaat is water-soluble, and is formulated for use in capsules, foods, beverages, tablets, and gummites.

“The Lodaat team is on the cutting edge of science,” Rajiv Khatau, Lodaat managing director, said. “The publication of Ashwadaat clinical in an international peer-reviewed journal shows that Lodaat Pharma’s innovations, patented technologies, and quality are defining the future of the global nutraceutical, food-beverage, and the pharmaceutical industry. Now more than ever, Lodaat science is needed for all humankind.”

The authors of the study attributed the benefits observed among participants to the GABA-like activity that the botanical extract exhibits, which “may account for its anti-anxiety effect. Due to GABA-like activity, Ashwagandha decreases neuronal activity, inhibits nerve cells from over-firing, and, as a result, uplifts mood. This produces a calming effect and can lead to stress reduction and induction of high-quality sleep.”
