Barrington Nutritionals has announced a partnership with RedLeaf Biologics to distribute its bioflavanoid complex ingredient sourced from red sorghum. RedLeaf is standardized to no less than 20% polyphenols, including 3-deoxyanthocyanidins which are very rare in nature but found in abundance in the producer’s patented variety of red sorghum which was discovered and is grown and extracted in Kentucky.

“At RedLeaf, we’ve worked hard to build not only a totally new crop and agricultural ecosystem, but a fundamentally new and disruptive class of natural ingredients,” said Sean Voigt, president of RedLeaf Biologics. “Barrington brings deep relationships, experience and knowledge of ingredient markets, and we are so excited to be partnering with the team to bring our novel ingredients to brands and consumers across health & wellness, food and beverage, and cosmetics.”

The patented ingredient has been found in studies to upregulate the cellular antioxidant response element (Nrf2/ARE) and downregulate NFKB, signifying that the ingredient can address oxidative stress. Due to this bioactive mechanism, RedLeaf is suitable in a variety of products in categories such as sports nutrition, gut health, cognition support, and beauty-from-within.

“We are excited by this partnership with RedLeaf Biologics in supplying their Red Sorghum Bioflavonoid Complex,” said Chris Holland, vice president of sales at Barrington Nutritionals. “By its action on three fundamental and interconnected physiologies — oxidative stress, inflammation and immunity, RedLeaf’s proprietary ingredient shows promise in a range of health, beauty and nutrition applications. This ingredient is a highly soluble powder extract with a pleasant herbal flavor and aroma that will appeal to formulators looking across various delivery applications.”
