NOW Receives Earth Flag Award and Recognition for Philanthropy

The company was recognized by SCARCE in Illinois, and The Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada.

NOW, a natural products manufacturer in the U.S. health food store channel, has received recognition from two organizations for its commitment to sustainability, and for its philanthropic endeavors.

Over the past decade, the company has received multiple Earth flags by School & Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education (SCARCE) to fly over their DuPage County, Illinois facilities in recognition of the company’s sustainability efforts. The most recent dedication took place in October at the Bloomingdale manufacturing facility, 10 years after it was first honored with an Earth flag.

To achieve the Earth flag, facilities need to be committed to sustainability projects. On that front, NOW:  trained employees on the topic; completed a green audit; installed LED lights and motion presence light detectors; conducted an energy audit; participated in eco-friendly events; used natural light and green cleaning products when possible; used post-consumer content paper products; conserved water; planted gardens; implemented a comprehensive recycling program; and provided charging stations for electric vehicles and parking for car-pool/energy efficient vehicles.

“Under the guidance of the Richard family, NOW remains very dedicated to the environment and conservation,” said Jessica Hinkle, senior manager of environmental safety, health, and compliance. “We thank all of the NOW team members for being engaged in protecting our environment and supporting NOW’s sustainability efforts.”

NOW was recognized by the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada with the large company 2022 Philanthropy Hero Award for philanthropic financial contributions, employee volunteer hours, and other donations to charitable organizations in the northern Nevada area, where NOW’s Sparks manufacturing facility is LEED Silver certified.
