GOED Gears up for Omega-3 Day on Sunday, March 3rd

The trade association has compiled resources for consumer communications, media outreach, and other promotions.

The Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s (GOED) is gearing up for this year’s Global Omega-3 Day on March 3rd.
 
With approximately 80% of individuals presently short of meeting recommended intakes of EPA and DHA, GOED is dedicated to improving rates by rallying its members, communications partners, and the public to shine a spotlight on these nutrients.
 
The association has compiled resources about the role of EPA and DHA in heart, brain, eye, and prenatal health. A consumer communications toolkit, with downloadable graphics and other content, is available here.
 
According to GOED, last year’s Global Omega-3 Day led to search volumes for omega-3s reaching its highest point in any month since 2004. Highlights from last year’s celebration can be seen on GOED’s consumer-facing YouTube channel.  
 
The association recommends a number of ways in which organizations can participate on March 3rd.
 
GOED recommends sharing information about EPA and DHA on social media channels, utilizing key messages provided in GOED’s toolkit, along with sample social media posts and graphics, to educate the audience.
 
Another method is to host an influencer- or consumer-focused event or webinar, which can range from a session with physicians or pharmacists, an in-store event with a major retailer, or a webinar tailored to customers.
 
Media outreach, by pitching the promotion of Global Omega-3 Day to a local media source, is another option, in which company spokespersons, influencers, or GOED experts can take part in interviews to maximize media coverage.
 
Brands are encouraged to offer limited time discounts and promotions for their products on Global Omega-3 Day.
 
Finally, hosting contests or giveaways for consumers by encouraging people to share their plans to increase omega-3 intake and using the hashtag #GlobalOmega3Day.
