Kerry Launches Plenibiotic Postbiotic Ingredient

The new postbiotic is formulated to support gut and skin health at doses of 50 and 100 mg, respectively.

Kerry has launched Plenibiotic, a new rice-derived postbiotic ingredient derived from Lactobacillus casei subsp. 327, which is formulated to improve digestive and skin health with clinical support from randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled trials.

Plenibiotic is shelf-stable, tolerant of various environments and temperatrues, and is suitable for low-dose formlations, making it versatile for a variety of supplements for humans and pets. For digestive/pet health, 50 mg is needed to achieve efficacy, and 100 mg is needed to support skin health.

Plenibiotic targets the gut-skin axis, aligning with consumers’ growing understanding of the interconnection between gut health and overall wellness, Kerry reports. A strong majority (75%) of consumers consider healthy aging to be of the utmost importance, and one third are actively pursuing healthy aging from the age of 30 upward. Additionally, 55% of consumers that prioritize digestive health also are interested in skin health, according to the company.

“Plenibiotic is an exciting step forward in how we can leverage science to proactively address some of the greatest concerns facing consumers today,” said Jordan Dow, vice president, Kerry ProActive Health. “Part of our mission in bringing innovative and sustainable new solutions to market requires us to radically rethink the role supplements can play in consumers’ lives by focusing on ingredients that enable a more proactive approach to health and wellness. Plenibiotic is a perfect example of how we’re propelling the industry forward with premium, clinically-supported ingredients to deliver leading-edge health and wellness solutions”

While Kerry offers several probiotic solutions like BC30 and Sporevia, Plenibiotic is the company’s inaugural offering in the postbiotic space.
