Botanical Extract Evidenced to Reduce Acne Severity and Improve Skin Quality

Treatment with NuLiv Science’s Verbasnol was associated with significant improvements in Global Acne Grading System scores in a small group of young women.

Supplementation with a Rehmannia glutinosa leaf extract marketed as Verbasnol by NuLiv Science was associated with improvements in moderate to severe acne in a group of 22 women, according to a new clinical study published in Clinical, Cosmetic, and Investigational Dermatology.

In the double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study, the women, between the ages of 18 and 35, were randomized to take either 100 mg daily of Verbasnol or a placebo for 56 days. Significantly greater improvements in Global Acne Grading System (GAGS) scores, which were all moderate to severe at baseline, were achieved in the treatment group by day 28, and continued to grow by day 56.

In total, 80% of participants in the treatment group experienced improvements in their acne condition during the course of the study.

The clinical evidence, corroborated by GAGS scores, makes a compelling case for incorporating Verbasnol into skincare formulations, said Richard Wang, CEO of NuLiv Science. “In addition, these findigns present a unique opportunity for skincare and beauty brands to leverage the research data to strengthen and differentiate their products in the market,” he said.
