MegaFood Launches Plant-based Omega 3-6-9 Supplement

The formula combines algae oil with Ahiflower to target heart, brain, eye, and joint health.

Supplement company MegaFood has launched Omega 3-6-9, a supplement containing plant-based fatty acids and 600 mg of omega-3s to target heart, brain, eye, and joint health.

The supplement features Ahiflower, a plant-based source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids including SDA, ALA, and GLA, with 600 mg of omega-3s sourced from algal oil. It’s coated and infused with organic lemon oil to reduce aftertaste and burps.

Ahiflower is grown in the UK using regenerative farming practices, and each acre provides as much oil as 500,000 anchovies. Meanwhile, algal oil can provide the same omega-3s as fish oil without environmental disruption.

“At MegaFood, it’s our mission to embed sustainability into all aspects of our business which includes the products we innovate and the way we source ingredients,” said Stacia Betley, director of sustainability and social impact. “I’m excited by this product as it’s a plant-based alternative to fish oil and shifting to plant-rich diets is a top climate solution that we can all engage in. By using fish-free algae oil, we are making plant-based alternatives more available and are supporting a healthier marine ecosystem. Our new plant-powered Omega 3-6-9 complex is grown and sourced with people and the planet in mind, sourced from fellow B-corp, Ahiflower.”

Omega 3-6-9 is formulated to offer a better taste experience than traditional fish oil supplements, which may come with unpleasant fishy burps and tastes. Omega 3-6-9’s oils are processed for minimal oxidation to improve taste, and a delayed-release capsule with a lemon oil coating can minimize aftertaste.

The supplement is mercury and PCB free, and is tested for more than 150 pesticides. It’s also Non-GMO Project verified, gluten-free, and made without 9 common food allergens including milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, fish, shellfish, and sesame.
