Doctor’s Biome Medical Food Eliminates Toxin-Producing Bacteria: In Vitro Study

The juice-based probiotic formulation eliminates epsilon toxin-producing microbes thought to potentially trigger Multiple Sclerosis.

A medical food containing 60 billion colony-forming units of a proprietary probiotic blend by Doctor’s Biome may help to eliminate epsilon toxin-producing bacteria, according to an in vitro study published in the International Journal of Preventive Medicine and Care.

The bacteria which the formulation targets, including strains of C. perfringens and ATCC 3631, are thought to be a potential environmental trigger for multiple sclerosis (MS), as the epsilon toxin they produce can cause damage to myelin. While the root cause of MS remains unknown, dietary strategies may be able to reduce epsilon toxin-producing bacteria.

According to Doctor’s Biome, no specific dietary ingredient or medical food has been available for this purpose prior to the launch of this new product.

“We are delighted that we have developed a patent-pending juice-based probiotic medical food for the dietary management of Ms that inhibits the growth of both type B and type D epsilon toxin-producing Clostridium perfringens, which, according to the most recent published clinical findings, are thought to be the cause or trigger of MS,” said A. Reza Kamarei, PhD, chief science and technology officer at Doctor’s Biome, and author of the present study.

Doctor’s Biome Medical Food contains 60 billion colony-forming units (CFUs) of the company’s proprietary blend of probiotics, combined with two ounces of sterilized organic green fruit and vegetable juice.
