Sonoran University of Health Sciences’ board of trustees has launched a national search for its next president in preparation for the departure of Paul Mittman, ND, EdD, who will be retiring in June 2025 after 25 years as president and CEO. The new president is expected to begin their tenure in July 2025.

Sonoran’s board of trustees has engaged with Academic Search, a firm which recruits and develops executive leadership in higher education, and has created a presidential search committee made up of trustees, faculty, staff, and student representatives.

“We are seeking a strategic, experienced, and visionary leader who will embrace the opportunity to elevate Sonoran University to its next level of accomplishment and build upon Dr. Mittman’s remarkable work,” said Duane Roen, PhD, Sonoran trustee, search committee chair, and former vice provost and dean at Arizona State University. “This individual is expected to carry out day-to-day operations, build on efforts to further elevate the institution and its professions, strengthen the success of students and alumni in service of the broader community, and enhance its long-term financial health.”

Since its founding in 1992, Sonoran University has specialized in naturopathic medicine and healthcare. The university is situated on 8.5 acres and offers multiple accredited degree programs through the College of Naturopathic Medicine, the College of Nutrition, and the newly-launched School of Mental Health.
