Fenix Health Science, a supplement brand specializing in personalized products formulated for mental wellbeing, has launched a new line of omega-3, mineral, and vitamin products tailored to meet age-specific needs.

The company’s products are recommended based on each person’s nutritional needs. Customers can take an online quiz and use the “build your own bundle” feature to create a package of products suited for their health goals.

Fenix’s new Omega products are powered by Lysoveta LPC, a lysophosphatidylcholine-bound formulation of EPA and DHA introduced by Aker BioMarine. Fenix reported the new formulation delivers 297% more omega-3 fatty acids to the brain per dose than its original Accentrate omega-3 formula.

The new product line includes Omega for kids, Omega 110 for adults over 110 pounds, and Omega Max for individuals with significant omega-3 deficiencies.

Fenix Health Science is also introducing new products under its Neuro collection, including a kids’ formulation, Neuro 110 for adults, and Neuro X for individuals with MTHFR or sensitivities to folate.

To round out the launch, Fenix Health Science also has a mineral supplement, featuring chelated magnesium, zinc, and iron, designed to fill in dietary gaps to support cognitive function.

“Felix Health Science was born from a deeply personal need to emphasize nutrition with the most potent ingredients so people can feel the difference nutrition can make,” said Brett Bartel, founder of Fenix. “Our new line represents years of research and a passion for helping others achieve optimal wellness.”

Mental Health as a Cornerstone

Bartel, who has a background in molecular biology and had been working in the supplement and pharmaceutical industries for nearly a decade, was motivated to create his first product, Accentrate, after his son was diagnosed with ADHD. “We wanted to make sure no nutritional deficiencies contributed to his symptoms. Additionally, we wanted to provide him the right nutrients that would help support his mental wellbeing.”

Since then, he’s been invested in creating products with cognitive support nutrients in the forms most bioavailable and able to cross the blood-brain barrier.

A 2019 study found that omega-3s bound to lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) were more easily able to cross the blood-brain barrier than other molecules, Bartel noted.

“Fenix always wanted to provide nutrients in the most bioavailable form, and upon reading this study, we immediately wanted to reformulate Accentrate to include LPC. However, there was no supplier of LPC in the world. We reached out to a number of companies in the food industry to make it. We looked at making it ourselves. Then we found that Aker Biomarine was working on developing Lysoveta LPC which comprises EPA and DHA bound to lysophosphatidylcholine. It’s an expensive ingredient to make, and Fenix’s profit margins will be lower as we try to keep pricing the same … I was personally the first person to take it in the United States right after I watched it getting bottled.”

Bartel said that proprietary research indicates that brain accretion of EPA and DHA in triglyceride form plateaus after a few weeks, but this isn’t the case with the LPC-bound form, meaning that the latter provides both quicker and longer-lasting benefit. He noted that studies evaluating its relative cognitive benefits are ongoing; emerging research includes an animal study on neonatal brain injury prevention, and ongoing research into its potential for those at risk of Alzheimer’s and early cognitive decline.

“I would not be surprised if 10 years from now Lysoveta LPC is the only omega-3 supplement recommended for mental health,” Bartel said.

Similarly, Fenix’s mineral formulation emphasizes having nutrients in absorbable forms rather than in high quantities, and contains all minerals essential for the enzymes that help to produce dopamine.

“Studies have shown that supplementation of these minerals has had a synergistic impact with medication,” Bartel said. “Mineral chelates are minerals bound to amino acids or other organic molecules that are absorbed better than mineral salts. These molecules are much larger than the mineral salts and so it’s harder to pack as many minerals in a capsule. But studies have shown that chelated minerals can have a 2-4 times higher absorption.”

In the absence of reliable and affordable tests to parse out all nutrient deficiencies that could contribute to cognitive or mental health issues, “a person must take many tests,” Bartel said.

“Then, they must find a supplement with those nutrients in a bioavailable form. Most people can’t do this. We’ve tried to simplify this to help those who can’t. Accentrate was originally intended as a shotgun approach to provide the nutrients most people looking to improve focus, attention, and mood need and would benefit from, knowing they probably don’t need all of them. Fenix only uses premium ingredients, which are not cheap. If we can get our customers the correct nutrients they need and not buy the ones they don’t need through a personalized approach, they can more easily afford to have a body well nourished.”
