Süd-Chemie Performance Packaging has launched PharmaKeep® oxygen absorbing canisters for the pharmaceutical nad nutraceutical market as part of a joint project with Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Inc. (MGC). In addition to oxygen absorbing canisters, a complete line of PharmaKeep sachets will also be available from both companies. PharmaKeep canisters help extend the shelf life and efficacy of pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products by protecting against oxygen degradation. While traditional oxygen absorbers need moisture to absorb oxygen, PharmaKeep is active as supplied, absorbing oxygen at low relative humidity levels. The rigid, cylindrical shape of the PharmaKeep canister is designed for automatic, high-speed insertion into pharmaceutical and nutraceutical packaging, feeding up to 1000 canisters per minute and because of the canisters’ rigid design, they can be continually run in a hopper system, with no need to stop a filling line. PharmaKeep oxygen absorbing canisters are currently available in one-gram configurations.
