More than one in 10 of the new nutraceutical-type products introduced in the U.S. between May 2001 and May 2004 were indicated for cardiovascular health, according to a new report published by FunctionalFoodwire.com. “Distinguishing Your Product-Selling Nutraceuticals, Functional Foods and Dietary Supplements in an Increasingly Crowded Market: Strategies and Successes” documents hundreds of product launches that took place over the three-year period. For the purpose of this research report relevant products were strictly defined as those that make specific health claims like “supports healthy immune function, “promotes prostate health” or “helps relieve symptoms of menopause.”
