RFi Ingredients will be showcasing Hofseth BioCare (HBC)’s ProGo bioactive peptide mix, derived from Atlantic salmon, at its booth during SupplySide West.
ProGo is evidenced to improve metabolic efficiency by targeting specific pathways that help drive fat loss, protect overall muscle mass, and boost energy levels.
Cell-based assay research suggests that peptides in salmon protein hydrolysate (SPH) activate incretin pathways of GLP-1 and GIP, which are involved in metabolic regulation. SPH’s profile suggests a potential to support healthy aging, particularly in menopausal women, according to the company. Health concerns during this phase of life include weight gain, reduced energy, increased insulin resistance, and a variety of health risk including cardiovascular disease.
“This latest study builds on our clinical trial results demonstrating weight control and improved energy,” said Dr. Crawford Currie, head of medical R&D at HBC. “There we showed that ProGo led to a 6-7% decrease in BMI via a reduction in body fat only, with muscle mass notably preserved. The FTH1 (ferritin heavy chain 1) gene system si consistently three-to-four-times upregulated, which results in significant increases in ferritin and hemoglobin to boost energy and recovery.”
ProGo has a unique bioactive composition which is distinct from the more than 1,300 commercially available and research-based hydrolysates produced by other protease enzymes.
The company will also showcase NT-II, an undenatured type II collagen for joint health sourced from Norwegian fjords to shore and straight into production. There is no processing or purification, and instead, the company uses a proprietary process with non-extreme temperatures to ensure the collagen remains in its undenatured state.
The company will also highlight OmeGo, a sashimi-grade salmon oil containing a full spectrum of omega fatty acids. The oil has a four-year shelf life and is marketed with 22 structure-function claims in the U.S.
