NutriLeads BV will highlight the latest research on its precision prebiotics at SupplySide West, focused on clinical and preclinical studies published this year which further support opportunities for gut and immune health products.
This year, the company announced the publication of three peer-reviewed studies providing evidence that Benicaros, its prebiotic ingredient, can strengthen gut health regardless of individual differences in gut microbiota composition. The robust, consistent, and predictable effects of the prebiotic, which achieved clinical efficacy at a dosage of 300 mg, significantly expands the possibilities for gut health product formats and applications, according to the company.
“We are excited to discuss our latest research, which clearly shows the superiority of precision prebiotics for cultivating a healthy and resilient gut ecosystem,” said Joana Carneiro-Wakefield, PhD, chief executive officer of NutriLeads. “Not all prebiotics are created equal. Benicaros provides formulators new opportunities for product differentiation.”
2024 studies
A clinical study involving 146 subjects found that Benicaros consistently and predictably increased the relative abundance of common beneficial bacteria, including Bifidobacterium spp. (primarily B. adolescentis and B. longum), independent of varying baseline gut microbiota compositions. The study was published in Biomedicine and Pharmacotherapy.
A study published in Food Hydrocolloids which used a widely-recognized in vitro intestinal model called M-SHIME provided evidence that the consistent results of the prebiotic ingredient were explained in part by the molecular complexity of the fiber.
Another study provided new insights into the molecular structure and cell surface patterns of Benicaros which contributed to its effects on immune system response. The findings, published in the current issue of Carbohydrate Polymers, further validate the role of Benicaros as an immune support ingredient.
